Enter the name or the IP address of the VMware vCenter or ESX server you want to monitor.
Enter the port number for the vCenter or ESX server you want to connect to.
Default port: 443
Enter the user name required to connect to the vCenter or ESX server.
This user must be the vCenter user and must have Read-Only rights.
Re-enter the password required to connect to the vCenter or ESX server.
Define the lookup order for the hostname of the virtual machine. The namespace variable for the hostname of the VSM_VM application class (InfoBox: DNS name) is set according to the value defined in this field.
Valid values are:
- DNSNAME: (default) The KM sets the hostname variable as the DNS name of the virtual machine (as reported by the VMware tools). If the DNS name of the virtual machine is not available, the hostname is set to an empty string.
- VMNAME: The KM sets the hostname variable as the virtual machine name if the virtual machine name is a valid DNS name. Otherwise, the hostname is set to an empty string.
- DNSNAME, VMNAME: The KM sets the hostname variable as the DNS name of the virtual machine (as reported by the VMware tools). If the DNS name is not available, the KM sets the hostname variable as the virtual machine name, provided that virtual machine name is a valid DNS name. If the virtual machine name is not a valid DNS name, the hostname is set to an empty string.
Specify a datacenter name or a regular expression to filter datacenters that you want to include or exclude from monitoring.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Note
If you enter a regular expression to include or exclude a datacenter, all the clusters, hosts and virtual machines under that datacenter are included or excluded from monitoring.
Specify a cluster name or a regular expression to filter clusters that you want to include or exclude from monitoring.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Note
If you enter a regular expression to include or exclude a cluster, all the hosts and virtual machines under that cluster are included or excluded from the inventory.
Select Include or Exclude to include/exclude only those clusters in the inventory that satisfy the regular expression.
Specify a host name or a regular expression to filter hosts that you want to include or exclude from monitoring.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Note
If you enter a regular expression to include or exclude a host, all the virtual machines on that host are included or excluded from the inventory.
Specify a virtual machine name or a regular expression to filter virtual machines that you want to include or exclude from monitoring.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Note
If you enter a regular expression to include or exclude a cluster, all the hosts and virtual machines under that cluster are included or excluded from the inventory.
Specify a virtual machine DNS name or a regular expression to filter virtual machines that you want to include or exclude from monitoring based on DNS names.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Specify a virtual machine IP address or a regular expression to filter virtual machines that you want to include or exclude from monitoring based on IP addresses.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Specify a datastore name or a regular expression to filter datastore that you want to include or exclude from monitoring.
The regular expression is case sensitive.
Event Monitoring Configuration
Select this check box to receive VMware event details in annotations of event filter parameters.
If you selected any one of the managed object type (except Other Type) from the Managed Object Type list, enter the managed object name as it appears in the vCenter.
If you selected Other Type in the Managed Object Type field, enter the type and ID of the managed object in the following format - ManagedObjectID|ManagedObjectType. For example, to create a filter for a network object with a managed object ID of network-19, enter network-19|Network in the Managed Object Name field. You can find the managed object type and ID in the Managed Object browser of vCenter.
Select the type of the managed object for which you want to monitor the events.
The following managed objects are available.
- Datacenter
- HostSystem
- VirtualMachine
- ClusterComputerResource
- ResourcePool
- Datastore
- Folder
- Other Type
Select the check box to monitor events of all the child instances of the selected managed object name.
For example, if you want to monitor all events for a Datacenter and all its related entities, select this check box and ensure that you have selected Datacenter in the Manged Object Type list.
Select one or more event severity by which you want to filter events for the selected managed object type.
The following severity values are available for monitoring:
- Information
- Warning
- Error
- User
Enter a comma-separated list of VMware vSphere available event types (VMware event data objects) by which you want to filter events for the selected managed object type.
If you do not specify an event type, all event types are monitored by default.
For example (VMware event data objects): VmConnectedEvent,VmPoweredOffEvent,VmPoweredOnEvent,DrsVmMigratedEvent
Enter a comma-separated list of users by which you want to filter events for the selected managed object type.
If you do not specify a user, events for all the users are monitored by default.
Click this option to add this monitoring configuration. This information is displayed on the Monitor Configuration page.
After you click this option, you can continue to add more objects for monitoring.
