Dunst elaborated to Net-a-Porter on Coppola's influence for that decision to stand up for keeping her teeth the way they were. "Well, Sofia likes my teeth. She's so natural, so chic and feminine, and she's directing movies. If she thinks I'm pretty, I'm pretty." She also told Variety that even after she said no to the Spider-Man producer who'd said, "'I need to take you to the dentist!'" they went ahead and fixed her teeth in the movie poster for the film.
The Spider-Man producers weren't the only ones to bring it up. Apparently Dunst's mother has told her in the past to get her smile "fixed," but the star isn't bothered by what others want her to do. While some may see a problem with her teeth, Dunst told Elle UK that "I love my snaggle fangs. They give me character and character is sexy. People comment, but the only person who ever told me to fix them was my mom" (via StyleCaster).
