Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/NBC Latin singer Shakira joins the coaches' bench for season 4. The singer, pregnant with her first child for some of the season, credits her maternal instincts for making her protective over her teammembers.
Kris Thomas: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC This pastor’s son fell into depression and alcoholism after losing a record deal, and got a wake-up call when he found himself drunk at the wheel. Only Shakira picked up on Thomas’ feminine timbre and controlled falsettos, while the other three coaches were surprised to see a man standing before them.
Mark Andrew: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Andrew — a vocal blend of Voice alumni Tony Lucca and Nicholas David — was hesitant to give music a second try, after two of his former band members recently passed away.
Cathia: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC She took a risk by singing "No Me Doy por Vencido" in Spanish, and Shakira loved it.
Tawnya Reynolds: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC This aspiring country singer couldn't get Shelton to turn his chair, but she got all three of the other coaches to notice her. She went with Shakira, despite Shelton's encouragement for her to choose Usher.
Monique Abbadie: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC A veteran of a Spanish variety show as a kid, Abbadie is the first contestant to sing a Shakira song for Shakira — and an ambitiously rhythmic one at that. “You know I got this one, guys,” joked Shakira, in all seriousness. “You’re so tough, Usher, I mean, you’re really trying!” Though momentarily tempted by Usher and his “good lookin’ self,” all of the coaches’ fingers began to point to Shakira.
J’Sun: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC J'Sun blew away the judges with his rendition of “For The First Time” by The Script. He joined Team Shakira.
Garrett Gardner: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC This familiar face auditioned last year with “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" with hopes of making his late father proud. He put his rasp on full blast this time to catch a spot on Shakira’s team, as well as congrats from the other coaches.
C. Perkins: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC New Orleans singer C. Perkins sang “Because of You” to nab a spot on Team Shakira.
Brandon Roush: Team Shakira
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC When he's not playing with his band, he's working with kids with autism. This guy with the heart of gold is looking to get coaches to turn around for his unique voice. While all the coaches sing along with him, only Shakira turns her chair.
Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/NBC Blake Shelton, a two-time winner of The Voice, returns for season four. He's fresh off the win of his contestant Cassadee Pope's win during season three.
The Morgan Twins: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC The coaches had no idea that a pair of blonde bombshells in red cocktail dresses were standing behind them. But after one sister nailed Alicia Keys' signature opening, Shelton and Usher immediately hit their buttons, with the other two coaches following suit.
Danielle Bradbery: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Bullied as a kid for having bad teeth, the 16-year-old stuck it to haters with the Taylor Swift song, and turned three chairs.
Christian Porter: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC The bar musician (aka a champion of covers) took a creative risk and put a blues twist on the LMFAO hit that displayed his vocal range and got Shelton and Shakira into a competition for him.
The Swon Bros: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Country duo Zach and Colton Swon brought their guitars and harmonies onstage for their first “Swon-cert” of the season. After some bad jokes from Shelton (“We can look back and say we ‘swon!'" he tried), the siblings chose to join Team Blake.
Holly Tucker: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Taking a break from playing the alto saxophone in the Baylor University marching band, this country powerhouse won over Levine, Shakira and Usher by the time she sang through her first line. The first three tried their best to fight off Shelton with offers to wear cowboy boots if necessary, but Tucker stuck with the two-time champion.
Trevor Davis: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC Trevor Davis performed a quirky rendition of “Keep Your Head Up," which got the crowd dancing and him a spot on Shelton's team.
Savannah Berry: Team Blake
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC This 17-year-old got to sing with Sugarland, and decided to commit to a music career after that. She takes on a Taylor Swift song, and Levine is the first to turn his chair. He's followed by Shakira and then Shelton, who we have to assume is Berry's ideal coach with her country sound. After Berry says that Miranda Lambert is one of her musical influences, Shelton shows off his wedding ring. Shakira pulls her newbie card: "These two guys — they're jaded, they're almost deaf," she says of Shelton and Levine. Shelton name drops some more country names, and then mentions that he and Miranda were thinking of maybe adopting. "You're 17, a very adoptable age," he says. Berry can't say "No" to that, and joins Team Blake.
Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/NBC Usher joins The Voice for season four with plenty of mentoring experience already under his belt. The singer discovered Justin Bieber, who went on to become an international superstar.
Vedo: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC With experiences of homelessness and a mother with stage-IV lung cancer, this R&B singer sang through the whispers of the Justin Bieber hit and received a standing ovation — and his first-choice coach.
Jesse Kellner: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Using music to heal emotional scars from an alcoholic mother, Kellner’s brassy tone and patient phrasing departed from typical Voice auditions.
Josiah Hawley: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC He wants to be known as much more than a pretty face, but look at that face! The religious, married model sings "Sunday Morning," a Maroon 5 song, but surprisingly chooses Usher as his coach.
Taylor Beckham: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Previously training to become an Olympic gymnast, this 17-year-old R&B lover traded the balance beam for the stage, and caught the attention of the newbie coaches. Though Shakira tried to find common ground by sharing that she used to be a gymnast too (and says she can still put her legs behind her head), Beckham joined Team Usher.
Michelle Chamuel: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC As the lead singer of a band called Ella Riot, this rocker is the self-appointed voice of introverted nerds — and it’s a good one. After kicking off the Katy Perry hit with just a piano and telling a couple jokes, she chose Usher, who is definitely the best coach for a career in alternative electronic pop.
Chelsea Monindroo: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Chelsea M sang Rihanna's “Take A Bow” to secure a spot on Usher's team.
Orlando Dixon: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC Dixon says his father wasn't around when he was younger, but he's always had music in his life. He currently performs as a wedding singer, but wants more for himself and to be able to support his mother and sister. The song doesn't really let him show off his voice, but at the very last second Usher turns his chair. "I turned because I really did feel like you had a great tone," says Usher.
Audrey Karrasch: Team Usher
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC This former model moved to Charlotte, N.C., to focus on music. Shelton turns his chair nearly immediately for her unique sound. Usher follows shortly after. "It really does take strength and confidence to come out here and move this crowd," says Usher. She goes with Usher, which leads the coach to show off a little bit of his dance moves.
Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/NBC Adam Levine returns for his fourth season of The Voice. The Maroon 5 frontman had won one season of NBC's singing competition and hopes to coach another winner this season.
Judith Hill: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC The background singer set for Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour spent two months rehearsing with the legend before he passed away. Though offers poured in after she sang at Jackson’s memorial service, Hill said “it seemed like poor taste” and instead opted to try The Voice, putting a soulful spin on coach Aguilera’s early hit "What a Girl Wants." “You’re the first person who’s ever done a Christina song, and done it as well as Christina Aguilera,” says Levine.
Midas Whale: Team Adam
This geeky, goofy folk duet belts out "Folsom Prison Blues" onstage. The first coach to turn his chair is, surprisingly, Usher, followed quickly by Shelton, Levine and Shakira. They go with Levine.
Sarah Simmons: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC After having her dad fall in and out of her life because of addiction issues, Sarah has finally rebuilt that relationship and is ready to perform for the coaches. She hits just the right note early on in her song, and Shakira and Levine quickly hit their buttons. Her cool, unique, powerful voice gets Shelton and Usher to turn, too. She goes with Levine.
Duncan Kamakana: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC Duncan Kamakana came to the The Voice stage with an acoustic version of Michael Buble's hit song “Home.” He joined Team Adam.
Karina Iglesias: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC This vocal teacher switched to Spanish for a few lines of the chorus, and rocked offers from the returning coaches. While Shakira regretted not pushing her button in Spanish — and then translated for Shelton — Iglesias opted for Levine.
Warren Stone: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBC A firefighter and father from South Carolina, this musician fronted a band for years until running into marital troubles. To every coach’s surprise, Levine finally steals away a country singer from Shelton.
Patrick Dodd: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC Dodd gave up music for a time to be a family man, but now his family is encouraging him to go after his dreams. His voice is strong, and it makes Shakira and Levine turn. "You have so much soul in your voice," says Shakira. "Never underestimate a five-foot-three Columbian girl," she adds. Despite that selling point, Dodd goes with Levine.
Agina Alvarez: Team Adam
Image Credit: Photo Credit: NBC The returning contestant, a Latin singer and former actress, takes a risk by singing Shakira's “Beautiful Liar." She catches the attention of Adam Levine and joins his team.
