After they were dumped, Mary Bedford and Aaron Simpson appeared on "Love Island: Aftersun" together. She told host Laura Whitmore, "I think we're just gonna go home when we're back in the real world again and things are more normal. We're going to see how it goes, but I've definitely made a best friend in here." It wasn't exactly the romantic declaration fans were expecting, and Tyla writes that the couple broke things off before leaving the island.
However, in September 2021, Bedford revealed that there was a deeper meaning behind this. During a Q&A on her Instagram, she said that her grandmother had passed away, which made things very hard for her. "Coming out of the villa and finding out about the news of my grandmother completely threw me. I've never lost anyone close to me, so it has been really hard for me to be honest," she said. "As a result of this, my head is all over the place, and all I knew is that I wanted to be back home surrounded by my loved ones." She added: "Aaron is an amazing person who has been supportive about everything since we left the show, but right now, there is no pressure on us."
Simpson shared similar sentiments in The Sun. "It's been hard being shut out," he said, "I want to be there for her."
Only time will tell if they'll rekindle that initial flame they developed on "Love Island."
