Riddled by sex scandals as well as poor box office performance, Hugh Grant is the first to concede that his fall from grace was his own fault. "I developed a bad attitude from about 2005 onwards," the actor admitted to the LA Times. Then, Grant made what he called a "massive turkey" with actress Sarah Jessica Parker, the universally panned film Did You Hear About the Morgans?. "Whether I wanted to or not after that, the days of being a very well-paid leading man were suddenly gone overnight," Grant revealed.
Fortunately, The Undoing was far from a turkey; in fact, the series, which also stars Nicole Kidman, garnered more views for HBO than any other program since the Big Little Lies finale aired in 2019 (per IndieWire). Grant's career, and earning potential, seemingly revived as quickly as it tanked. While his income for this role has not been shared, Celebrity Net Worth estimates that the actor currently earns $10 million for feature films and half that amount for smaller engagements — not too far off his peak earnings from several decades ago.
And, some critics believe this series brings Grant's 1990s charm full-circle. As GQ commented, "it's thrilling to watch Grant play the sort of creep that only he could play, one that cashes in all the accumulated goodwill built up playing the achingly sincere nice guys."
