The UFC legend turned Hollywood actor, Georges St-Pierre has revealed the secret to his enduring vitality in his 40s.
Since GSP's retirement in 2019, he has returned to our screens only this time out of the octagon and in MCU's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. And he's looking in great shape.
So, what is his secret? Well, one thing it certainly isn't is a strict celebrity meal plan. 'I can eat pretty much whatever I want because of the way I work out,' he told Muscle and Health.
So, what then? The answer is simple: consistency.
'I try to work out pretty much every day,' he says. 'I don’t work out hard every day, but I try to do, like I said, a little a lot, rather than a lot a little. Consistency is key.'
But there's something else, which GSP believes is key to his fitness and naturally helps improves his testosterone.
'I love my ice bath too. It gives me a good rush of adrenaline and helps boost testosterone,' says St-Pierre. 'When I do it first thing in the morning it helps me through the day. If I want to enhance my quality of sleep, I take an ice bath just before bed. I mix hot and cold therapy. So I go ice bath, jacuzzi, ice bath, jacuzzi.'
Cold exposure is a popular method of supporting muscle recovery, and while there is some evidence supporting its recovery benefits short-term, according to a study summary published by Examine, more studies are needed to confirm these findings.
St-Pierre continued to add that you can mix a hot and cold shower if you don’t have an ice bath, which creates a dump of adrenaline and improves sleep drastically.
'When you take an ice bath or cold shower, it raises your adrenaline because you’re in survival mode, you’re fighting hypothermia, so if you finish with something very hot on top of that you dump your adrenaline. That’s when you’ll see a huge difference in your sleep.'
