Professional Background

Albert Buddy Poje, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the University of Kansas Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and a licensed psychologist in the State of Kansas.

Dr. Poje obtained his Baccalaureate degree in Psychology (with departmental honors) from the University of Missouri at Kansas City (1996-2000) followed by his Master of Arts in General Psychology (2000-2002) and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology (2002-2007). He completed an Internship (2006-2007) and Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology with the KU Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (2007-2008).

Dr. Poje is a proud member of Psi Chi (inducted in 2000), who is committed to the promotion of psychological science.

Currently, Dr. Poje serves as a Staff Psychologist at the Strawberry Hill Campus. His practice centers on psychotherapy and psychological assessment with a focus on the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders within the context of adult psychiatry and consultation-liaison/health psychology. He also provides individual psychotherapy in the Medical Office Building's Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic and telehealth services.
Dr. Poje serves a lecturer and supervisor for the department's Residency, Clinical Psychology Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship programs, and has been a regular contributor to the School of Medicine's Legacy and ACE (M.D.) curriculum programs since 2012. He enjoys teaching applications of psychological science in the practice of health care across these activities. He regularly supervises psychology practicum students, clinical psychology interns, medical students and psychiatry residents in the areas of abnormal psychology, clinical psychology, psychometrics, neuroscience, research methods, and professional practice.

Dr. Poje received the Executive Dean's Achievement Award for Mentoring Residents in 2012 as a result of his commitment to teaching scholars and clinicians at KU Medical Center. He was nominated to join the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2017. He also serves KU Medical Center as a member of the Human Subjects Committee, Academy of Medical Educators, Postdoctoral Association Advisory Committee, and has served as an invited speaker for the Cray Diabetes Self-Management Center, Kansas City Regional Association of Diabetes Educators, KU Medical Center Continuing Education Program, Topeka VA, Paul Laybourne Symposium on Child Psychiatry, and the Greater Kansas City Psychological Association (president 2010 - 2011).
